Speaking Test Setup

This page will help you to setup this computer before running a Speaking Test. You may need to refresh the page as you progress through.

Speaking tests use Adobe Flash to run. If you do not have flash installed, please download this from the Adobe website. Please allow Adobe Flash when prompted and set this to always be enabled for this site.

Only the following Operating Systems are supported:

Only the following Browsers are supported:
  • Chrome
  • Firefox
  • Internet Explorer 8, or later
  • Edge

Headphones

First, your system volume and headphone volume must be set to maximum. Show Help

Now test your headphones using the audio, below. If it is too loud or too quiet, adjust the volume here.

The System volume may be too low, your headphones may be muted or there may be a problem with them. To make sure there is no problem with this website, try playing a sound file on your PC, or on another site (for example, www.youtube.com). Run this test again when you are ready. Show Help

Can you hear your recording?

Flash is not installed, or is not enabled.

If you know Flash is installed, use the “Test Again” button, below and make sure you click on “Allow”, in any popups that you see.

If you are using Internet Explorer and have now enabled Flash, please refresh this page so the new settings can take effect.

If you have tried this and you are still having problems, go to the Flash help page.

Speaking tests require flash. Please allow flash and select the remember option in the flash settings pop-up. Show Help.

Microphone is either not connected or access has been denied. Please connect a microphone, or allow and retry.

If you don't know how to allow it, please check Show Help.

No sound is being transmitted by your microphone. It may be muted. Show Help

No microphone was detected. Please make sure that you have your microphone plugged in.

Your Microphone Volume may be too low.

Open the flash volume settings and increase it to maximum, then test again.

The Recording sound is too loud. Show Help

You can check Flash Settings here.

More than one microphone is turned on. This may pevent a good quality recording. Please disable all microphones apart from one. Show Help

Flash is not installed or is not enabled.

Software not supported

Some of the software on this machine is not supported.

If the browser is shown as not supported, please install one and re-run this PC Check using that browser.

Computer Ready

Please use the same browser when running the Speaking test on this computer.
